1. Agonda
Where: Goa
Best time to visit: November to March

Agonda is a serene getaway from the bustling Goa beaches. You can stay in one of the many huts located on the beach to enjoy solitude. Apart from wandering to small shops and shacks nearby there is not much else to do here. If your idea of a great vacation is being ‘busy doing nothing’, Agonda is your oasis. It is close to the capital Panaji and well connected by buses.

2. Varkala 
Where: Kerala
Best time to visit: September to March

The visually-stunning Varkala with red-earth cliffs is an hour’s drive from Thiruvananthapuram. Rejuvenate your frayed nerves here by doing early morning yoga on the beach; indulge in Kerala massage and exfoliate your skin naturally with a dip in the mineral springs nearby.


3. Radhanagar
Where: Havelock Island, Andaman & Nicobar
Best time to visit: November to April

The beach offers a refreshing break from the hectic city life. It is reputed to be one of the best beaches in Asia for its turquoise waters that provide a clear view of the coral reef and sparkling white sand. The waters are warm from November to April, making it ideal for swimming and scuba diving.

4. Gokarna
Where: Karnataka
Best time to visit: November to March

If you are bored of Goa’s beaches, then try Gokarna in adjoining Karnataka. It is a tranquil town, best known for the Mahabaleshwar temple. There aren’t many commercial activities to do here so you can unwind on the vast sandy beach. The place is connected by buses and trains; the nearest airport is Dabolim, Goa.

 

5. Lighthouse 
Where: Kovalam, Kerala
Best time to visit: November to February

Kovalam is a fishing village that draws a lot of tourists because of its famous lighthouse. The pristine lighthouse beach has a cove of coconut trees and is a cool haven for weary travellers. The shoreline is dotted with open air restaurants where you can laze around and watch the sunset. It is also an excellent place for surfing!

6. Dhanushkodi 
Where: Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu
Best time to visit: October to April

The blue waters of Dhanushkodi are so clear that the coral reefs underneath are easily visible. It is situated on the tip of the Rameshwaram Island where the Bay of Bengal merges with the Indian Ocean. You can see rocks in the water, which are said to have a mythical connection to Sri Lanka. The Dhanushkodi Temple dedicated to Lord Ram is said to be more than 1000-years-old and attracts a lot of curious visitors each year.


7. Karaikal 
Where: Pondicherry
Best time to visit: November to March

The beach is located at the confluence where the River Arasalar merges with the sea, just a few kilometers from Pondicherry. You can go boating in the backwaters of Arasalar or relax at the beach to admire the spectacular views. It is a relatively quieter beach and has a lot of pocket-friendly resorts and cottages.

8. Ram Krishna

Best time to visit: November to March

Despite having a busy harbour, the coastal city of Vishakhapatnam has plenty to offer with its numerous beaches, museums and gardens. The Ram Krishna beach is ideal for a family vacation, as you can stroll down the pedestrian track in the evening and eat at the many open air restaurants and parks located close to the shoreline.


9. Gopalpur 
Where: Orissa
Best time to visit: November to March

Since this is one of the few east-facing beaches on this list, the view of the sunrise from here is magnificent. Head to the old lighthouse located at an abandoned sea port on Gopalpur’s coast to witness the sunrise. It will take your breath away!

10. Neil Island 
Where: Andaman & Nicobar
Best time to visit: November to March

This beach is frequented by foreigners for its restful surroundings. Nestled in green vegetation with panoramic views of the vast Indian Ocean, Neil Island is a paradise for people who love isolation. If you want to indulge in water sports, you can snorkel in the shallow waters.
