The Hublot Big Bang Referee 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™
Hublot has launched its first ever smart watch, Big Bang Referee 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ at the Baselworld this year, to mark the forthcoming FIFA World Cup, for which Hublot is the official timekeeper and The Big Bang Referee, the official watch.
Hublot, a part of the French luxury goods conglomerate LVMH, comes from the lineage of an independent watchmaking family, who have exploded in the world of high-end luxury watchmakers on the back of their unique, unorthodox designs, merging Swiss craftsmanship with Italian aesthetics. What started back in the 80s as the raison d’etre of its visionary founder Carlo Crocco has today revolutionised the design of luxury timepieces. Crocco’s ‘Art Of Fusion’, the soul of the brand’s ethos today, was an experimental and playful approach in designing watch cases and straps through the use of unorthodox materials like rubber, a huge digression from the standard luxury design codes three decades back.
Hublot, a French word for ‘porthole’, combined a precious metal case in a porthole shape with a rubber strap instead of gold bracelets, to break free from the prevailing fashion edicts, and create the first fusion timepiece that introduced The Art Of Fusion to watchmaking. Weaving in this originality, avant-garde fashion, radical style, quality and functionality into each timepiece, Hublot crafted the uber successful line of The Big Bang Collection, back in 2005, which instantly catapulted the brand to the league of some of the most revered luxury watchmakers in the world. Big Bang Referee 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ is the latest addition to this legendary line.
As Hublot’s first smartwatch while sharing the same DNA as The Big Bang Collection – a radically modern design coupled with Swiss luxury, has pushed further the bounds of haute horology. It’s audacious, masculine and a World Cup one off. It will be worn this summer by the referees and it’s already garnered rave reviews at the Baselworld. While the brand is entrenched in the world of high-end sports, with Hublot being the Official Timekeeper and Official Watch of several of the world’s most popular clubs such as Manchester United, FC Bayern München and Juventus of Turin and several basketball leagues, Brand Partner of the Italian giant, Ferrari and boasting a strong network of NBA stars as Ambassadors, its love for Football is the most pronounced.
‘Hublot Loves Football’ has been at the core of the luxury watchmaker’s sports initiatives for the last decade. And now, The Big Bang Referee has been developed for FIFA, along with FIFA. Built with an Intel Atom Z34XX processor and running on Google’s smart technology, Wear OS, it’s packed with expensive soccer tech, making it a masterpiece. It features Goal Line Technology and VAR, helping referees monitor decisions through digital video assistance for the first time. Goal Line Technology assists by tracking the trajectory of ball on the field and helps determine if it has crossed the goal line fully. A limited edition, the consumer versions are priced ostentatiously at over $ 5000 and only 2018 timepieces will be made available for purchase. These are geared to keep football lovers updated on all action, tracking the game for the wearer, with notifications 15 minutes before kick-off times, a host of in-match statistics and a ‘goal’ flashing up on the screen every time a goal is scored, to share in the brouhaha.
Designed in Hublot’s distinctive futuristic-minimal style, The Big Bang Referee comes in a mammoth 49mm-case built from Titanium with a Kevlar insert. Six iconic H-shaped screws decorate the bezel and secure the body together. Designed with bold, sharp angles and a muted satin-finish, the timepiece flaunts a very robotic look and oozes with Hublot’s luxuriously brazen vibe.
The iconic design boasts 32 specially-designed watch faces, each inspired by the flags of the participating countries, along with two neutral dial choices. It is offered with a choice of two straps, a black rubber strap and a specially-made sponge cuff strap with the 2018 FIFA World Cup emblem, both interchangeable with the brand’s patented One-Click strap. Underneath the skin, the watch has exciting functions to whet big appetites. It features a 400 x 400 AMOLED display at the heart of that metal frame with a vibrant screen, a built-in GPS, NFC with support for Google Pay, an accelerometer, a gyroscope and a battery that lasts an entire day.
The Big Bang Referee 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ is not just another luxury smart watch. It’s that holy-grail tech-accessory that captures every moment from every game, tuning a football aficionado into the highs and the lows of the game. Available from 1st May 2018 in Hublot authorised outlets, worldwide. In India, you can order it through Kapoor Watch & Co; Shruti Jain, the company’s digital marketing consultant confirmed this information to Luxurypage.
