2018 Jewellery Trends: Shoulder Dust Earrings And Big Hoops
Jewellery designer Prakshi Sharma of Prakshi Fine Jewellery tells us about her jewellery brand, love for diamonds and her saga of success
What began as a two-people team, operating from a single location, has now grown into a jewellery designing and manufacturing house that has set its sights on the Middle East. Here’s a quick tête-à-tête with the designer:
Tell us about your journey?
Prakshi: My jewellery making journey began as an ‘accidental love’ that instantly grew into a compelling passion. I have spent two years in New York City following my dream where I was trained by the best in the industry.
I was exposed to international design aesthetics and sensibilities, and I recognised the need and the market for contemporary, fine jewellery in India. My education and upbringing exposed me to both Indian and Western cultures, which magnificently come through in each of my masterpieces. I am a nature lover and want to discover the beauty embedded in it. Jewellery designing is my passion and I harmonise my love with my passion.
I have always been passionate about jewellery. One day, I decided to channelise this passion into my profession. I managed to create an empire that spreads beauty and joy through exquisite jewellery. It has also been my honour to be awarded the prestigious Best Bridal Jewellery Design award by industry leader Carolee; it was also displayed at the Bloomingdales.
Describe your latest collection ‘Treasure in Aqua’
Prakshi: The collection gracefully amalgamates glamour with contemporary style. It comprises stunning rings, neckpieces and earrings; the range embraces the elegant unison of gleaming diamonds and graceful sapphires. The simple and light formats are pleasing to the eye. Blue sapphires enliven the designs and add splendour to each piece.
What inspires your designs?
Prakshi: Jewellery is a part of my life. Therefore I always want to come up with new ideas, inspirations and designs. Also, creativity! I love to challenge my own artistic ability to get better and better with each jewel that I produce.
Describe the ideal woman who you see wearing your designs.
Prakshi: An independent woman! They would have to be women, who want something different and have their own style statement.
What kind of precious stones do you work with the most?
Prakshi: I love diamonds in every form. From uncut, sliced, shallow cut, rose cut or brilliant cut – I just love the refractive properties of diamonds.
Your favorite fashion icons whose style is always on point
Prakshi: I think Sonam Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Rihanna have great style.
Most prized jewellery in your personal wardrobe?
Prakshi: My wedding jewellery
Mistakes women make with their jewellery
Prakshi: Sometimes people match the colour too much. I feel a bit of contrast helps to break the monotony.
Upcoming trends in jewellery design?
Prakshi: Shoulder dust earrings and big hoops are the next big thing!
Your favourite jewellery quote?
Prakshi: Trends come and go and styles evolve. It’s important to have pieces of jewellery that are timeless and look chic despite ever-changing fashion.
